Students of Regina Pacis Secondary School Emerges Technovation World Challenge 2018 Champions

The ingenuity of the Anambra people is no longer in doubt.

Apart from being the pride of the nation in technological advancement, the state has kept a tab on latest development on innovation around the world and often blazes the trail.


Long before the war and up till date Awka, the capital of the state has been famous for blacksmithing. The uncommon ingenuity played very important role during the trial period of the civil war.

On its part, Nnewi, another town in the state is fast becoming Africa's most developing industrial cluster. The town hosts several manufacturing companies that produce industrial equipment, military gears and home appliances. The first indigenous car manufacturing company in Africa (Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, makers of IVM Motors) is owned by Innocent Chukwuma, an indigene of the town and a citizen of Anambra state.

To fully understand the place of Anambra State in Nigeria, it is important to state that the state prides herself as the only one in Nigeria that hosts about 200 genuine billionaires and has the largest market in West Africa.

In the academic circle, the state towers very high in all ramifications. The first African Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan was from the State. Africa's literary giants like Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, Cyprain Ekwensi and a host of others are great sons and daughters of the great state.
The first man to obtain the Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics was an Anambra man, Prof. Chike Obi. The computer wizard that developed algorithms for fighting crimes in the United States of America, Philip Emeagwali is also from the State.

In politics, the first President of Nigeria, her first Governor- General as well as her first senate president was Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, also from Anambra State. There are a host of others.

Just two days ago in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, USA, where a Technovation World Chaĺlenge was held, a team of five female students from the state emerged the world champions. The team "Save a Soul" which comprised five students of Regina Pacis Secondary School, Onitsha, Anambra state beat other competitors from the US, China, Japan, Spain, and a host of other nations to emerge world champions.

The Golden Girls developed an app called FD-Detector that will help Nigeria detect fake pharmaceutical products. This app was particularly timely in view of the geometric rise in proliferation of fake pharmaceutical products across Nigeria. No doubt, with the detector in place, millions of life will be saved.

The world teenage champions who are Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo, Vivian Okoye were led to the competition by their able instructor, Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu.

That was not the first time a Team from Anambra is representing Nigeria at the worlds' events in Education and or Innovation. There was the worlds' schools debate held in Singapore in 2016 where another team from the state emerged the world's champions.

In 2017, a teacher from Anambra state won the best teacher in Nigeria ditto for others. The state has maintained top position in the country's external examinations like the WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and others

Our leaders who chose the motto of the state as the "Light of the Nation", must have pried into the future.

There is no gainsaying the fact that the exemplary leadership skills of Governor Willie Obiano has made that light shone brighter in all spheres of life.

Before the Gold Winning Team left Nigeria for San Francisco, USA, the Governor hosted them at the Governors Lodge, Amawbia, encouraged them and charged them to remember that they are Ndi Anambra, and must emerge the winners. And today they have made the state proud.

Through Governor Obiano's intervention in the Education sector with special interest in Science and Technical Education, Anambra has maintained top position in almost all the competitions within and outside Nigeria.
