Please what is the best polite way to tell a partner he has body odour without him picking an offence or feel like it's an insult?

Although he uses a lot of perfumes so you wouldn't even notice he has an offensive odour expect you have a body contact with him or share same bed, he rarely bath with sponge and doesn't like using deodorant could this be the cause? I had tried talking him into using bathing sponge but he has bluntly refused.

Please let the parliament help on how to convey this message without having issues with him.
